Graazt
Among the Demon Lords manifested into the world by Entropy, none disturbs me quite as deeply as Graazt, the Eternal of Corruption.
All other demons wear their destruction openly upon claws, fangs, and deformed bodies. He is the Dark Prince, the one demon lord whose malice did not wholly ruin beauty, but sharpened it into a weapon. Although his vileness is not lessened by appearance, he disguises terror with tainted allure.
The Poisoned Dagger of Chaos
Graazt does not follow Chaos as a beast follows flesh. He serves it like a master musician follows a cruel melody, restraining the note until its release discords more deeply. His desire is the defilement of all creation, yet he has learned the rarest discipline among demons, self-control. He understands that corruption ripens better than conquest, that a nation weakened from within falls more sweetly than one broken by siege. He survives by combining cruelty and treachery. He divides power, feeds rivalries, flatters pride, turns allies into competitors, and enemies into sacrifices. In Othmog, he remains the first and only contender who survived and prevailed against the ancient demon lords of the first spires, not by greater brute strength, but by teaching demons to hate one another more than they hated him. If Asmodeus is the iron mind of infernal order, Graazt is the poisoned sacrificial dagger of Chaos.
Dominion Beyond the Wall
His dominion stretches through the northern regions of Therasya beyond the wall, from the shores of the Western Haze Rift washed by the Passage of Colors to Oquox in the old Numahen lands, and from Ituanh to the borders of Helkor with Starfall. In Ahriman his capital fortress walls glitter with countless consumed soul crystals, each one a stolen life added to his treasury of corruption. The Helkorians know him as their only true god; their priests speak his name near the Great Sultan, and they offer living sacrifices in his name. Soul harvesting, and the corruption of Harmony’s creatures please his appetite. Demons love him because he gives their cruelty structure and they fear him because he makes their own plans seem childish.
A Form of Lethal Beauty
In form, Graazt stands two heads above the tallest giant, winged, and terrible, yet not totally monstrous in the manner of the common abyssal host. His body bears the symmetry of lethal beauty. His skin is dark and flawless like polished obsidian touched by fire, his hair falls black as a moonless sea, and his eyes hold the shine of red wine, numbing will and burning desire alike. His beauty is not gentle. It is a hook dragged slowly through the skin. To look upon him is to understand why mortals have mistaken surrender for love and despair for devotion. His horns crown him rather than disfigure him, his wings unfold like the banners of a conquered heaven, and in battle he bears a fiery greatsword whose twin blades swirl like two snakes, exposing every weakness of the soul. Even his voice is said to resemble tender terror. Graazt’s love is despair wearing the mantle of agony.
The Patience of Centuries
His intelligence is immense, and perhaps that is his most dreadful feature. He seldom mistakes appetite for strategy, although he indulges in slaughter when he controls position. He can wait through the reign of kings if his thirst for ruin is quenched occasionally with mortal blood and soul. He can plan through centuries if the corruption he planted has not yet flowered, and he rarely strikes first before his adversaries are weakened, isolated, and divided. Only after strife has done its work does he descend with full might. He uses Helkorian fanaticism and the ambition of every demon lord who thinks himself able to overthrow him. I have read of few enemies who stood against Graazt with armies, oaths, and even divine favor. Most fell before they could mount a serious threat.
