Death is not the end of a soul's journey, but merely another turn of the Spire.
To die in Ancestral is not to stop, but to pass through, to set down one life and, in time, take up another. What the living mourn as an ending, the dead experience as a turning.
“No soul is spent in a single life. It is only spent in a single choice, made again and again, across every life it is given.”
The Hand of Lahesis
Guided by the hand of Lahesis, the dead pass beyond the mortal world and enter the great cycle of rebirth, carrying with them the unseen weight of their deeds and choices. Nothing is forgotten in the passage; every kindness and every cruelty is folded into what the soul becomes next.
The Cycle of Rebirth
Most souls return to life in new forms, continuing their long path toward understanding and fulfillment, each life another revolution of the turning Spire, another chance to settle what was left unfinished.
Those Who Find No Peace
Yet not all find peace. Some are claimed by darkness, some are bound by demons, and some are condemned to wander as the spiritless Fallen, soul-husks cut loose from the cycle, belonging neither to life nor to death.
| The fate of a soul | What befalls it |
|---|---|
| Rebirth | Returns to life in a new form, continuing toward understanding |
| The lost | Claimed by darkness, bound by demons, or left to wander as the Fallen |
| The Pool | Union with the source, the journey’s end |
The Pool
Beyond all cycles waits the Pool itself, the final destination of those who have completed their journey and become one with the source of creation. It is not oblivion but homecoming: the soul, at last, returned to the water it was drawn from.
“No path ends at the grave; it only bends toward the Pool once more.”
