Few callings command greater respect across the kingdoms of Therasya than that of the Loremaster. To the common folk they are historians, scholars, mapmakers, and advisors. Kings seek their counsel before wars, guilds entrust them with forgotten discoveries, and temples preserve their writings beside sacred scripture. Yet these titles reveal only a fraction of their purpose. A Loremaster is not merely one who gathers knowledge, but one entrusted with ensuring that knowledge survives the passing of a Spire. In Kinetika stands the Pool of Knowledge, a colossal spiral library built in the likeness of the eternal Pool itself. Its immense screw-shaped halls descend ever deeper into the mountain, allowing priceless manuscripts, relics, maps, and discoveries to be sealed away even should darkness once again consume the surface. It is not simply the greatest library ever constructed. It is the ark of mortal memory. As the Pool of Souls preserves our spirits until we unite with Harmony, likewise the Pool of Knowledge preserves our Works until the next Spire dawn.

The Long Education

The education of a Loremaster begins in childhood within these endless halls. There they study history, cartography and countless other disciplines before ever touching arcane power. Only after mastering the foundations of knowledge are they required to join one of the rival schools of magic, either the Arcanum or Elemendia. Years later they return to Kinetika bearing not only the wisdom of their chosen discipline but also an understanding of its rival. This unique path has made Loremasters the few scholars trusted by both schools, often serving as impartial ambassadors where mages themselves would refuse to cooperate.

A Lifelong Work

No Loremaster earns his title through examination alone. Upon returning to the Pool, each is entrusted with a lifelong Work, a subject worthy of preserving for generations yet unborn. Some devote decades to charting unexplored lands, others to recording the customs of distant peoples, cataloguing monstrous species, documenting forgotten kingdoms, or studying ancient relics buried beneath previous Spires. Many spend years wandering the world before a single volume is completed. Their achievements are displayed upon the Badge of Scarabs, each engraved scarab representing a field of mastery or a completed Work. Throughout Therasya these badges are widely recognized, granting their bearers passage through kingdoms, audiences with rulers, and access to libraries that remain closed even to nobles.

Keepers of Memory

Though trained in the arcane arts, Loremasters seldom seek glory upon the battlefield. Their greatest victories are measured not in enemies slain but in truths preserved against the endless erosion of time and the destruction wrought by Entropy. We have witnessed kingdoms perish, libraries burn, and histories rewritten by the ambitions of kings. Yet when darkness recedes and another age begins, it is often the humble work of a Loremaster that allows civilization to remember who it once was. When Darkness falls again, as history assures us it shall, I believe the Pool of Knowledge will outlive even the kingdoms themselves.
