KINGDOMFALCON RIDERSARCANUMOATHSFALCONHAND

Dymarth occupies the highlands at the heart of the continent. A realm of emerald valleys, mountain fortresses, and endless skies crossed by the shadows of cyan falcons. Honor is spoken there as often as common greetings, and the Falconhand kings rule through respect, oath, and the old discipline of Harmony rather than fear.

The kingdom is famed for its Falcon Knights and the towers of Arcanum, where powerful mages study the Dragon Grimoires of Abjuration, Conjuration, and Enchantment. Travelers may mistake Dymarthian courtesy for softness, until they witness a Falcon Knight descending from the clouds with bow drawn and oath already fulfilled.

History & Founding

Dymarth traces its human blood to the First Men, the Numahian lines that survived migrating to several southern realms. The earliest Dymarthians settled high among the mountains where Dymarth City now stands, then spread through the valleys beyond the Emerald Hills, raising Falconia to the west and Noverith to the north. The Chronus River and the River of Omens became both borders and lifeblood, feeding a hard realm that learned early that beauty and hardship often drink from the same spring.

The true founding of the kingdom begins with Cyran, the warrior who found the giant Cyan Falcons upon the high cliffs and cloud-springs of the mountain ranges. These were no common birds, but mighty creatures of Mother Thera, strong enough to bear warriors into battle and wise enough to choose their own riders. Cyran bonded with them, became the first Falcon Knight, and took the name Falconhand after the smaller falcons that seemed forever to rest upon his wrists. From that union of men and sky, he became the first king of Dymarth.

Dymarth’s second foundation was arcane. After the separation of the nine Dragon Grimoires, three came into Dymarthian hands: Abjuration, Conjuration, and Enchantment. Soriun, Dreyhol, and Mayral, the first holders of those tomes, joined King Cyran and established the Arcanum School of Magic within the safety of the capital. Since then, Dymarth has stood as both mountain kingdom and school of power, with one hand on the bowstring and the other upon the sealed page.

Government & Succession

Dymarth is an oath-bound monarchy of the Falconhand line. The king is the prime lord of the realm, yet he does not rule as an isolated tyrant. He is advised by the Queen, the Grandmaster of Arcanum, the landlords of Falconia, Ren, and Noverith, and the archpriests of Harmony, Thera, and Ydor. The present ruler is King Zoran Falconhand, with Queen Emelyn Falconhand beside him and their sons standing within the shadow of future succession.

Succession follows the royal bloodline, but blood alone is not considered enough. A king must take the Oath of Justice, and the oath is not just ceremony but true test and burden. Falcon Knights swear the Oath of Service, children take the Oath of Harmony, and mages of Arcanum bind themselves to the Oath of Arcanum. To break oath and honor in Dymarth is not just social embarrassment. It is a permanent stain upon one’s family name, and one of the gravest crimes of the realm.

Arcanum holds a delicate place in this structure. It maintains a neutral political position, yet the senior grand mages stand by the king’s ear and its towers uphold the Dymarthian law. In times of peril the Arcanum Pledge binds its mages to support the kingdom’s defense. Thus Dymarth is ruled by crown, counsel, temple, and oath, each one watching the other so the highland realm does not fall under Entropy’s grasp.

Society & Culture

Dymarthian society is built upon honor and loyalty. A spoken agreement is treated as a written promise, a promise as an oath, and an oath as something stronger than stone. Their courtesy is not delicate court manner, but discipline learned from stone roads, narrow passes, and winters that do not care how noble a man’s blood may be.

Life in Dymarth is not easy. Thus its people have chosen to treat the weak and strangers unlike their harsh mountains. Farming the highlands is a battle against soil and weather, mining precious metals requires endurance, and timber, livestock, and agriculture demand the cooperation of families, guilds, and landlords. This hardship has made the people practical, proud, and slow to trust empty speech. They are generous hosts when respect is given, but they do not forgive betrayal lightly.

The Dymarthians also carry the visible heritage of the First Men: tall frames, clear complexions, and hair often marked by blonde, brown, and red shades. Yet their identity is not merely blood. A child of Dymarth is taught to look upward to the falcons, to the sun on the ridges, and to the white towers of Arcanum, and to understand that height means duty before glory. Their valleys are rich and those who work on them share the bountiful crops with the high cities.

Faith

The great temples of Dymarth honor Harmony, Thera, and Zoodotis, while Ydor is revered through rivers, omens, and the living waters that shape the land. Chronus is not the chief Eternal of the kingdom, but along the riverlands his passing is felt in every current, season, and oath remembered across generations.

In Dymarth City, the Temple of Harmony is where kings take the Oath of Justice. There the crown is measured not by gold, but by whether the ruler can speak truth beneath sacred witness. In Noverith stands the Grand Temple of Thera, raised near the blessed lake of Thera’s Tear beneath the colossal monument of the Eternal Mother, where Earth spirits and Cyan Falcons are said to gather without fear.

Zoodotis is honored in a temple set upon the ridges, where sunlight splits across the mountain heights and pours into the valleys below. This image shapes Dymarthian faith: light descending into hardship to reveal the path through it. For the Dymarthian, prayer is the moment before duty begins. After Lucifer’s redemption, a cleric has established a temple honoring the winds.

Military

Dymarth’s army is not the largest of the southern realms, but it is disciplined, mobile, and feared for what it can do from above. Its heart is the Falcon Knights, airborne archers trained from childhood to live with the bow. By sixteen, young Falconites leave their homes for the high cliffs, where cold, solitude, drakes, and the judgment of the Cyan Falcons decide whether they are worthy to ride.

Those who succeed master falcon-riding, aerial archery, longsword, and shield. The finest among them become living symbols of Dymarthian honor, sometimes serving as royal emissaries and often reinforcing Cord’s Arm and other threatened fronts against the armies of Othmog. Beside them march the Mountain Knights, hardy soldiers of the passes, and the Falconeye archers, ground-based marksmen whose discipline mirrors their airborne kin.

The Rangers guard the cliffs, trails, and falcon nesting grounds, while Arcanum’s battle-mages stand fast until their pledge is invoked. When Dymarth must fight in full strength, arrows fall from the sky, shields lock across the mountain roads, and the white towers of Arcanum answer with ward, summons, and enchantment. Few invaders enjoy fighting a kingdom that owns both the pass beneath their feet and the air above their heads.

Economy & Trade

Dymarth’s wealth is earned from difficult land. Mountain farming, livestock, mining, and timber form the foundation of daily life, while the passes give the kingdom strategic value far beyond its fields. Whoever crosses from Andor and the eastern roads toward Mysthall, Zargovia, the Blackridge, and the western regions must reckon with Dymarth’s fortresses and laws.

Ren is famed for masterwork bows crafted from the wood of the Eternal Forest, and the kingdom’s metals feed both tools and arms. Falcon gear, mountain harnesses, fine bows, and carved timber all move through its markets. Dymarthians do not love luxury as some realms do, but they value excellence in objects meant to endure: a bow that does not warp, a clasp that does not break, a blade that does not shame its bearer.

Arcanum also draws students, envoys, scholars, and rivals. Its white towers make Dymarth a center of arcane education, though admission is never easy and politics follows every grimoire shadow. Trade ties exist with Andor, the Thergen Empire, Kinetika, and Elemendia, though the rivalry between Arcanum and Elemendia’s schools often turns commerce into argument before it becomes coin.

Foreign Relations

Dymarth belongs naturally to the Southern Alliance that stands against Entropy, Othmog, Helkor, and the old darkness. Its relations with Andor, the Thergen Empire, Kinetika, Erenor, Starfall, Heraldon, Makinkas and Avaton are shaped by shared wars, road security, and the memory of alliances that survived because every realm gave something different to the shield.

With Elemendia and Lydoria, the bond is more complicated. There are trade treaties and scholarly contact, but Arcanum and the Elemendian schools of magic often look at one another with the narrow eyes of rivals. Dymarth respects magic as discipline and oath. Elemendia often treats it as hierarchy and power. The difference has produced diplomatic incidents, yet neither realm can entirely ignore the usefulness of the other. Lydorians have often abducted Dymarthian men and their relations are borderline when the demon threta is not obvious.

Dymarth’s mountain roads also place it near dangers that cannot be dismissed. To the west and north lie passages toward Mysthall and the Thergen lands. To the south and southwest stretch routes toward Zargovia and darker marches. Dymarth does not seek unnecessary war, but its Falcon Knights have long memories, and the kingdom understands that a pass left unguarded becomes tomorrow’s invasion road.

Notable Settlements and locations

  • Dymarth City — Capital of the kingdom, raised high in the eastern realm and northern Felldrake ranges. It is a fortified mountain city of towers, royal halls, oath-temples, and the northern district of Arcanum.
  • Arcanum School of Magic — A vast complex of white towers, gleaming marble, magical walls, and radiant energies extending both above the city and deep below it. It guards the traditions of Abjuration, Conjuration, and Enchantment and remains politically neutral until the Arcanum Pledge calls it to war.
  • Falconia — Western city of the realm and one of the great symbols of Dymarthian identity. Its monuments to the Cyan Falcon preserve the memory of Cyran Falconhand and the first riders.
  • Noverith — Northern city tied to the Chronus River and the worship of Thera. The Grand Temple of Thera stands near the blessed lake of Thera’s Tear, visited by pilgrims from many lands.
  • Ren / Ydor’s Dale — A renowned bow-making settlement associated with the Eternal Forest and the riverlands. Its craftsmen produce masterwork bows prized by Falconeyes, hunters, and noble houses.
  • The Emerald Hills — Beautiful highland valleys beyond the first capital settlement, fertile enough to matter and hard enough to humble those who work them.
  • Thera’s Tear — A blessed lake near Noverith, surrounded by sacred associations with Thera, Earth spirits, and Cyan Falcons.
  • The River of Omens — A sacred and strategic waterway tied to Ydor, borderland travel, and the strange riverhorses spoken of in Dymarthian lore.
  • Thera’s Spine Pass — The great mountain passage controlled by Dymarth, giving the kingdom its strategic role between eastern Therasya, Andor, Mysthall, Zargovia, and the Blackridge.
  • Storm Castle — A fortress on the eastern approaches of the highland routes. It serves best as a watchpoint against raids, storms, and threats moving between Dymarth’s neighboring realms.

Adventure Hooks

  • A sacred Cyan Falcon rejects every rider and screams whenever it faces the northern passes. The Rangers believe its nest has been corrupted while Arcanum fears something older is calling the bird away from Thera.
  • A young mage refuses the Arcanum Pledge during a border crisis, claiming the threat is an illusion planted by Elemendian rivals. If he speaks the truth Elemendia is plotting to turn Dymarth against Andor.
  • A relic said to belong to the first Falcon Knight is stolen from Falconia. The thief leaves no marks, only feathers stained with ash. The trail leads toward the high drake cliffs.
  • One of King Zoran’s sons is accused of oath-breaking before the Temple of Harmony. The royal house cannot move without appearing corrupt, so the party must uncover whether the accusation is truth or foreign manipulation.
  • Along Ydor’s Dale, the river overfloods for one night and carries broken shields from a battle that has not been announced. Priests of Ydor ask the party to follow the omen.
  • A group of sixteen-year-old Falconites vanish during their cliff ordeal. Their mentor insists drakes took them, but one surviving apprentice claims the mountain itself opened and swallowed them in a deep cavern.
  • Elemendian envoys arrive at Arcanum offering rare arcane knowledge in exchange for access to sealed halls. The Grandmaster suspects espionage, while the king fears refusing them may shatter a fragile trade treaty.
  • No signal has come from Storm Castle for three days. When the party reaches it, the gates are open, the watchfires burn blue, and the sentries are found standing at attention, alive but unable to move since the last sunrise.
  • Dymarthian eagle riders sent to honor old alliance graves do not return from the Barrowfen road. Their disappearance threatens the Alliance gathering unless the truth is found quickly.
  • Miners beneath Thera’s Spine uncover an older road under the mountain, marked with pre-Dymarthian symbols. Arcanum wants it sealed until its secrets are uncovered.
