Asmodeus
He was once among the most revered of Harmony's Angels, the First, crafted by Her will, Her battle chant. He was the celestial force born to lead the ordered defense of creation against Entropy.
Yet his fall did not begin in hatred, but in compassion. During the Spire of Seeking, when Entropy’s legions devoured angelic ranks and countless of Asmodeus’s brethren perished in silence, he looked upon their sacrifice and found Harmony’s stillness unbearable. He could not endure the sight of celestials dying by the thousands while the Great Plan remained hidden from him. In that pain, his compassion hardened into judgment, and that led to hubris. He came to believe that Harmony’s silence was a sign, and that only with absolute command could they end Entropy forever.
The Angelic Crusade
Thus, Asmodeus became what he had once loathed most: a merciless general counting souls as necessary losses upon a greater battlefield. He judged the Great Plan insufficient, proclaimed himself divine, and began the angelic crusade that would end with his assault upon the Pool itself. Sermon, Thearetos, Gregorian, and the gathered powers of the world repelled him, but they could not destroy him. He was cast down upon Thera, and the angels bound to him by oath followed him into the fall. From that descent came the devils: not demons corrupted by chaos, but fallen servants of order, discipline, and obedience severed from mercy. To this day, Asmodeus believes that he still serves Harmony. In his mind, every contract, every war, every infernal chain, and every conquered soul is a weapon turned against Entropy. He does not see himself as betrayer, but as the only commander willing to do what no other Harmony’s servant would.
The Supreme Lord of the Devils
His domain is Avernia, the molten island, yet his true realm is not a piece of land, nor a fortress. It is the vast numbers of his troops and the total obedience of his Dukes. Asmodeus is the Supreme Lord of the Devils and the Eternal Mind of Plot, the intelligence behind Zargovia’s dominion, behind the contracts with mortals, the Blood War, and his endless patience to achieve his goal across the Spires. He does not worship conflict for its own sake. Asmodeus conquers nations strategically, moving kings, armies, debts, bloodlines, and ambitions like pieces upon a board. He uses mortal weakness with terrifying precision, binding men through ambition, law, and fear. He understands that a battlefield is won before the first blade is drawn, that a kingdom may be defeated before its armies march, and that a mortal soul may kneel long before it knows it has surrendered.
The Memory of Heaven
In form, Asmodeus still bears the memory of heaven, and this makes him more dreadful than any deformed brute of Othmog. He is tall beyond mortal measure, beautiful with the cold symmetry of a judgment already passed, his face calm, ancient, and utterly without pity. His eyes burn with lawful flame, not wildfire, but fire disciplined into command. His wings are not the ragged limbs of demons, but vast infernal flames, the darkened remnants of celestial glory with each feather edged like a blade and shadowed by the fall of his host. Around him the air seems to obey, fire lowers, voices still, soldiers straighten their backs, and even his Dukes are compelled to kneel before authority.
