Falcon Knight

The Winged Lances of Dymarth

Among the many knightly orders of Therasya, none command greater awe than the Falcon Knights of Dymarth. They are not merely mounted spearmen, but lifelong companions of the legendary Cyan Falcons, majestic children of Mother Thera whose loyalty cannot be bought, broken, or inherited. Since the days of Cyran Falconhand, every Falcon Knight has sworn the Oath of Service before Harmony and devoted his life to protecting the realm from the skies. Throughout Therasya they are recognized by their blue cloaks, immense spears, and the silent shadows cast overhead by their feathered companions. Few sights inspire greater hope than the arrival of a Falcon Knight, and few enemies survive long after hearing the beating of Cyan wings above the battlefield.

The Bond

Unlike the cavalry of other kingdoms, Falcon Knights are not assigned a mount. At the age of sixteen, every Falconite leaves behind family, title, and comfort to spend years among the Cloudspring Cliffs under the guidance of the mountain Rangers. There, a fledgling Cyan Falcon is chosen as a lifelong companion. The young warrior raises the bird from its earliest days, feeding it, protecting it from the merciless winters of the Cloudspring Cliffs, and learning every nuance of its nature. As the Falcon grows strong enough to challenge the skies, so too does its rider mature into a master armsman and knight. The bird learns to fly with the weight of its companion upon its back almost from its first true flights, while the knight learns to trust the Falcon before trusting himself. By the time they return to civilization, neither has ever flown nor fought beside another partner. From that day onward they eat together, train together, sleep beneath the same shelter, and enter every battle side by side until death parts them. Among Dymarthians it is said that a Falcon Knight is not one creature riding another, but two hearts that learned to beat to the same rhythm.

Falcon Knights never refer to their companions as mounts. To do so is considered a grave offence. They speak of them as brothers, and every Cyan Falcon bears a name known only to its rider and the priests of Halshire.

Two hearts that learned to beat to the same rhythm.

The Terror from Above

Years of shared hardship create a bond that outsiders often mistake for magic. A Falcon requires neither reins nor commands, anticipating its rider’s smallest gesture or even intent through countless hours spent hunting, training, and surviving together. Falcon Knights strike with astonishing precision from impossible angles, circling high above the battlefield before descending with volleys of armor-piercing arrows that have become the terror of demons and the foul spawn of Entropy. Many later serve as royal emissaries or scouts, but the greatest honor remains service upon Cord’s Arm, where generation after generation of Falcon Knights have stood watch over the southern kingdoms, ensuring that no wing of Othmog crosses the mountains unchallenged.

Until Death

The people of Dymarth believe that when one half of the pair dies, the other leaves part of its soul behind. No Falcon has ever accepted another rider, and no true Falcon Knight has willingly mounted another Falcon. Whether this is the will of Mother Thera or simply the strength of their lifelong bond, none can say.
