Thearetos

Eternal of Justice — Judge and Executioner
LIVING JUSTICEDISCIPLINERIGHTEOUSNESS

Thearetos, Eternal of Justice, serves as judge and executioner against the servants of Chaos.

His is the hardest of the angelic offices, not to fight evil, which is simple, but to judge it, and to carry out that judgment without becoming what he condemns.

Nature & Domain

Thearetos is judge and executioner against the servants of Chaos: the blade that falls when the verdict is certain. Yet he is no mere headsman, every sentence he carries out, he first weighs, for an execution without justice is only another murder.

His Teachings

His teachings emphasise three disciplines, in this order and no other:

  • Discipline, power held in check is power perfected
  • Righteousness, the cause must be just before the blade is ever drawn
  • Restraint, even in the face of evil; especially then

It is the last that the unworthy forget, and forgetting it is how a champion of Harmony becomes a tyrant in all but name.

The Archangel Brothers

Thearetos stands with his brothers Sermon and Gregorian as a supreme champion of Harmony, opposing the forces of Entropy since the earliest Spires. Their victory against Asmodeus at the Battle of the Pool helped preserve creation itself, and shaped the destiny of angels, devils, and mortals alike.

“I am not the sword of anger. I am the sword that waits until anger has passed, and then asks: is it still just?”
